Connecting silicon photonic circuits to multi-core fibers by photonic wire bonding

In the framework of the "Phoibos" project, KIT researchers succeeded in coupling four Silicon-on-Insulator nanophotonic waveguides to the individual cores of a four-core fiber by means of photonic wire bonding. Insertion losses as down to 1.7dB have been measured.
